The commissioning of the Vikrant marks a significant milestone for India, as the country will henceforth be able to defend its 7500-km-long coastline with two operational aircraft carriers - INS Vikramaditya(of Russian origin) and the Indigenously designed and built Vikrant.
In a momentous day in the Indian Maritime History & indigenous shipbuilding coinciding with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, IAC Vikrant has been formally delivered to the Indian Navy by Cochin Shipyard Ltd following extensive user acceptance trials.
With the coronavirus crisis affecting the defence sector, it is now being reported that the arrival of the INS Vikrant - the first aircraft carrier (IAC) built in India is once again delayed. The navy says trials are unlikely to begin before September/October.
