Budget 2024 Key Highlights: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the interim budget ahead of the end of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya criticized Union Budget 2023-24, alleging that there is nothing for the common people in the budget. The statement contradicts the earliest review of Budget 2023.
Ahead of the budget session in the Parliament, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said she identifies herself as middle class and that she understands the trouble faced by this section. “I belong to the middle class and identify myself as a middle class so I can understand them,” she said at an event organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) magazine Panchjanya.
Indian middle 40% is lagging far behind in income share not only with respect to world data and the top 10 global economies in which India ranks 6th, but also with respect to all her close neighbours like China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal & Pakistan.
This 2018 budget is also dominated by steps that strengthen the hands of farmers, micro and small businesses. It seeks to provide strong base of healthy life with the biggest public health program.
