Tamil Nadu opened nine shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam on Monday night in view of the rising water level in the reservoir and shut down three of them after 10 PM, the Idukki District administration said.

United Nations (UN) have released its report titled ‘Ageing water infrastructure: An emerging global risk’ about the ageing of dams in India. The report highlights that, some thousand large dams in India will be around 50 years old in 2025.
For irrigation purposes, the release of 900 cubic feet of water per day for four months has been ordered by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy. The monsoon from North East is strongly headed towards Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The water will be released from the Vaigai dam on 1st of next month.
