Six Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were killed while several others sustained injuries after a civilian bus carrying them rolled down into a roadside river bed in Pahalgam on Tuesday.
Amarnath Yatra has been paused from the Nunwan Pahalgam base camp on Thursday (Jul 14) morning due to heavy rainfall in the area while yatra from the Dhumail side has been ongoing with 5982 pilgrims left to visit the holy cave.
Amarnath Yatra, which was partially suspended after a cloudburst incident near the holy cave, resumed on Monday (Jul 11) morning. A fresh batch of Amarnath pilgrims has started to move from the Jammu base camp.
According to the recent direction of Union ministry of Home Affairs, the Jammu and Kashmir administration will start helicopter service for the pilgrims directly from Srinagar to Panchtarni, the last stop point located at an elevation of 3,500 meters from where a six-kilometer trek takes pilgrims to the holy Amarnath cave.
The high level meeting chaired by the DGP deliberated on different issues of security camps, communication network, regulation of traffic management on the national highways and other roads, parking of vehicles and deployment of forces on both the Amarnath yatra routes of Pahalgam and Baltal and similar other subjects.
Advisor to the Lt Governor of J&K said that the government is committed to revive cultural activities in the region.
