Since the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Madhavi Latha, a prominent Hindutva figure, to contest against AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad, she is gaining attention from media and votes.
Now Madhavi Latha has caught the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who praised Latha for her appearance on a television show.
Madhavi Latha Ji, your ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ episode is exceptional. You’ve made very solid points and also done so with logic and passion. My best wishes to you. I also urge everyone to watch the repeat telecast of this programme at 10 AM or 10 PM today. You all will find it very informative. @Kompella_MLatha,” the PM posted on X.
The 49-year-old was a relatively unknown name in Telangana’s political circles till she suddenly shot into the limelight after the BJP fielded her against Owaisi, whose father represented Hyderabad in Parliament from 1984 to 2004.
Latha, a mother of three, has said that the news of her candidature was a pleasant surprise and that she never lobbied for a ticket. A strong orator, Latha calls the ticket an acknowledgement of 18 years of charity work and another example of the BJP’s ability to recognise the potential of people.
Who is Madhavi Latha?
Known as a strong Hindutva proponent, Madhavi Latha is a philanthropist, classical dancer and entrepreneur. She has also worked with several Muslim women groups and also created a fund for destitute Muslim women. She is also known for her activism among Muslim women against triple talaq.
About Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency
The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency has been a stronghold of Owaisi family. It constitutes Goshamahal, Karwan, Malakpet and Yakatpura. A maximum number of its state assembly seats are also held by AIMIM. However,
Goshamahal is an exception, where BJP's Raja Singh managed to maintain his leadership. Before Asaddudin Owaisi, the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat was represented by his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi from 1984 to 2004.
