New Delhi, March 4: After former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav's remarks of "You don't even have your own family" against PM Modi, several BJP heavyweights including Amit Shah and JP Nadda added the "Modi Ka Parivar" suffix to their names on their social media handles.
What did Lalu Prasad Yadav say?
With an aim to take a dig at Prime Minister for his recent comments over opponents playing dynastic politics, the RJD supremo while addressing workers of the grand alliance at Jan Vishwas Maha Rally on Sunday, said, "What is this Modi?... This Narendra Modi is attacking '
parivaarvaad' these days. First, you should tell why you do not have any children or family. For the people with more children, he (PM Modi) says that it is dynasty politics."
"What can we do if Narendra Modi does not have a family of his own? He keeps bragging about the Ram temple. He is not even a true Hindu. In Hindu tradition, a son must shave his head and beard upon the demise of his parents. Modi did not do so when his mother died. Answer why did you not get your hair and beard removed," he added.
'140 cr people are my family': PM Modi responds
In response to Lalu's remark, PM Modi on Monday stated during a rally in Adilabad, Telangana, that the entire country is his (PM Modi's) family. "140 crore countrymen are my family. Today, crores of daughters, mothers and sisters of the country are Modi's family. Every poor person in the country is my family. Those who have no one, they also belong to Modi and Modi belongs to them. My India-My family, with the expansion of these feelings, I am living for you, fighting for you and will continue to fight for you, to fulfill my dreams with determination," PM Modi stated.
BJP leaders become 'Modi Ka Parivar'
Top BJP leaders, such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari, among others on Monday changed their names on the X platfrom to ‘Modi ka Parivaar (Modi’s family)'.
Main Bhi Chowkidar coined in 2019
Netizens were quick to point out that such phrases by the Opposition were wisely used by the BJP in the past as well.
Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress especially Rahul Gandhi repeatedly criticized PM Modi by saying "Chowkidar chor hai" (Guardian himself is a thief) over Rafale deal. Using the word "Chowidar", PM Modi launched a campaign called #MainBhiChowkidar. He tweeted, "Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying - Main Bhi Chowkidar".
Showing support for the BJP at that time, several leaders and followers batted for #MainBhiChowkidar campaign. What happened next was BJP won the Lok Sabha elections.
