Closely monitoring Indian deaths in US : Indian Classical Dancer Amarnath Ghosh Fatally shot

In yet another tragic incident highlighting the safety concerns of Indian nationals abroad, accomplished Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dancer, Amarnath Ghosh, was brutally shot dead in the United States where he was pursuing his PhD.

 

The shocking demise of Ghosh has sent shockwaves across the Indian community, raising questions about the safety and security of Indians residing in foreign countries.

 

 

According to reports, Ghosh was taking an evening walk in the St Louis Academy neighborhood on Tuesday, 27th February, when he was mercilessly shot multiple times. The news was confirmed by Meenakshi Sharan, a prominent writer and founder of the Ayodhya Foundation, who took to social media platform X to inform about the tragic incident. Sharan expressed grave concern over the lack of information and updates provided by US officials to Ghosh's grieving loved ones, adding that his body has not yet been handed over to his friends who have been tirelessly trying to claim it.

 

 

 

Amarnath Ghosh, who hailed from West Bengal's Birbhum district, had tragically lost both his parents, with his mother passing away just three years ago. As the only child in the family, Ghosh's untimely death has plunged his relatives into inconsolable grief.

  

 

The distressing news of Ghosh's murder comes amidst a series of violent attacks and targeted killings of Indian nationals in the United States, drawing attention to the pressing need for enhanced safety measures and diplomatic interventions. Incidents of xenophobia, racism, and hate crimes against Indians and other minority groups have sparked widespread outrage and calls for urgent action to address systemic issues of discrimination and intolerance.

 

In a related development, a report published by a local Bengali newspaper, Sangbad Pratidin, corroborated the tragic demise of the talented dancer, stating that Ghosh's family received a distressing call informing them about his death. Subsequently, his family members rushed to America, while also reporting the incident to the Siuri police station in Birbhum, West Bengal.
