A video of the incident, in which schoolkids could be seen eating chicken biryani in the temple premises, was shared on social media on Tuesday (Feb 06). According to reports, the scene unfolded on Saturday (Feb 03) during a school picnic organised by a private school from Bheemaram village, Hanamkonda district.

Some Hindu activists, who had visited Ramappa Temple took objection over it. They also sought Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) intervention and action against the school authorities.“We should take action now so that other people don’t repeat the same,” a person who confronted the teachers can be heard saying in the video.
In response, ASI offices in Hyderabad and New Delhi have launched an investigation into the matter. They have initiated inquiries into the matter and have engaged with the staff of the Ramappa Temple to address the issue. The development has intensified discussions surrounding cultural sensitivities and the sanctity of religious sites.

About the temple

The Ramappa Temple, situated in Palampet Village on the bank of Ramappa Lake in Mulugu District, holds significance as India's 39th World Heritage Site. Named after its architect Ramappa, it stands as the only temple in India to bear this distinction. Built in 1213 AD during the Kakatiya Empire's reign by Recherla Rudra, the temple is dedicated to the presiding deity Ramalingeswara Swamy. It serves as the primary Shiva temple within a walled complex constructed during the Kakatiyan period.

Earlier, a group of Christian people were caught eating chicken biryani in the sanctum of the temple. The incident took place in Tamil Nadu and it came to light after a video of it went viral on social media.
