JNU 2.0 in Pune? SPPU's professor & students arrested for showcasing Sita maa Smoking

As per the reports, students of Lalit Kala Kendra organised a play based on Bhagwan Ram and Devi Sita, in which the character of the deities was subjected to derogatory language.

Do you remember Saif Ali Khan's web series 'Tandav' in which Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub as a 'Jawaharlal Nehru University' student, portrayed Bhagwan Shiva in an inappropriate manner in the first few minutes of the series? A similar incident has taken place in Savitribai Phule Pune University(SPPU).

On Friday (Feb 2), a controversy unfolded in SPPU, where some students of Lalit Kala Kendra, SPPU's department of Centre For Performing Arts , staged a play based on Ramayana and inappropriately depicted Bhagwan Ram and Sita.
 
The incident came to light after, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), who were present among the audience raised their voices against the play and reported the same on social media through a video. Besides, the ABVP members have also filed a police complaint against the students who were part of the play.
 
 
 
What is the controversy?
 
As per the reports, students of SPPU's Lalit Kala Kendra organised a play based on Bhagwan Ram and Devi Sita, in which the character of the deities was subjected to derogatory language. In the beginning of the play, a boy who is identified as Prathamesh Sawant portrayed the role of Devi Sita and entered the stage smoking a cigarette. Further, he also used derogatory language like Ye* Z***, C****A.
 
Further hurting Hindu sentiments, Bhagwan Ram's brother Laxman played by Yash Chikhle, was seen giving a massage to Ravan. Apart from that, Bhagwan Ram's character was seen running away like a coward after seeing Ravan. As per the filed FIR, they also compared Bhagwan Ram with Bollywood's controversial actress Rakhi Sawant.
 
 
The play was written by Bhavesh Patil and was approved by the HOD of Lalit Kala Kendra Dr. Pravin Datatray Bhole.
 
Following the drama, the ABVP members who were present during the play, intervened and halted the play, denouncing it as offensive. The student organization has criticized the play, asserting that it involved offensive language and insults directed towards Bhagwan Shri Ram
 
 
The student organization has taken a firm stance, declaring that such depictions and language about Hindu gods and goddesses are unacceptable. The matter got heated up and some SPPU students attacked the ABVP members, some of their members sustained to injury.
 
FIR
 
Following this, ABVP members filed the FIR against the HOD of Lalit Kala Kendra, Dr. Pravin Datatray Bhole, Writer Bhavesh Patil, Director Jay Pendhekar, and actors Yash Chikhle, Prathmesh Swanth, Rishikesh Dalvi along with others. As per the FIR, police have booked the accused under the section of Indian Penal Code 295-A, 294, 143, 147,149, 323, 116, 117.
 
As per the ABVP member Harshvardhan Harpude , "It has come to our notice that some professors and students are deliberately hurting the sentiments of Hindu religion."ABVP Pune has demanding immediate action against those responsible for the play's content, insisting that such offences should not go unpunished.

It hurts Hindu sentiments.
 
The students of the Lalit Kala Kendra then tried to heckle us. We have approached the police and have sought the registration of a case," Barole said.
 
Inspector Ankush Chintaman of Chaturshringi police station said there was a confrontation and verbal spat between students and ABVP members."We have summoned both groups to record their statements," Chintaman said.
