New Delhi, Jan 31: An unusual incident took place in Parliament during the swearing-in ceremony of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former DCW chief Swati Maliwal as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jaideep Dhankar made her take an oath not once but twice on the first day of the Parliament Session.
What happened?
The incident take place after she finished her first oath with "Inquilab Zindabad." In response, BJP leader Piyush Goyal objected, leading to the cancellation of the oath. Subsequently, Maliwal had to take the oath once again to complete the procedure. Reports also suggest that Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar asked Ms Maliwal to take the oath for the second time after she mistakenly read out the oath meant for nominated members the first time.
The video has gone viral on the social media for raising unwanted sloganeering and wrong oath.
Swati Maliwal, a hypocrite!
Maliwal had once said she has been a victim of sexual assault at the hand of her father when she was a child during an event that reminded her of her own struggle - how she was 'sexually assaulted' by her father. However, an old post by Swati Maliwal in 2016 claimed she was proud of her father.
In the 2016 tweet, Maliwal had written, "I am the daughter of an army man. I was brought up in the Army. I have been taught to work for the country, to sacrifice my life for the country. I am not afraid of anything." This had erupted a huge ruckus of her sending a wrong message to the women.

Maliwal, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member, was elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed. Her party colleague and financial policy expert, Narain Dass Gupta, also took the oath today. This is Dass Gupta's second term in the Upper House. Educationist Satnam Singh Sandhu, a nominated member in Rajya Sabha, also took the oath today. Sandhu is the founder-chancellor of Chandigarh University.
These three are the first Rajya Sabha members to take the oath in the new Parliament building.
