Hangzhou, Sept 28: Continuing to make their mark at the Asian Games, Indian shooters clinched gold in the men's 10m air pistol team event on Day 5 here in Hangzhou. Meanwhile, Naorem Roshibina Devi clinched India's first medal on Day 5.
The Indian trio - Sarabjot Singh, Shiva Narwal, and Arjun Singh Cheema displayed exceptional prowess, securing victory by a single point over the home Chinese team. This remarkable achievement not only added another gold to India’s tally but also secured individual final berths for Sarabjot and Arjun in the 10m Air Pistol category.
All three of them showcased their shooting excellence by registering a combined score of 1734. Their remarkable performance allowed India to outclass the Chinese team and seize the gold medal. The narrow one-point victory demonstrated their precision and determination on the shooting range.
With this achievement, shooting continues to shine as one of India’s standout disciplines at the Asian Games, bringing home the country’s 6th gold medal and further cementing its position in the world of sports.
On Thursday, Roshibina crashed to a defeat in the women's 60kg wushu gold medal bout, losing to China's Wu Xiaowei. This was Roshibina's second Asian Games medal after the bronze in the 2018 edition in Jakarta. This was India's second individual silver medal in wushu at the Games after Wangkhem Sandhyarani Devi had finished second in the final at the Guangzhou Games back in 2010 in the same weight category.
Towards the evening we'll witness some high-voltage men's hockey action between India and Japan and before that Sunil Chhetri and his boys face a mighty challenge against Saudi Arabia in the round of 32 clash. After claiming a historic gold in equestrian team event, the focus now shifts to Dressage individual freestyle round, where Hriday Chheda and Anush Agarwalla are in contention for medals.
