New Delhi, Aug 21: In a horrifying incident, a senior Delhi govt officer has been booked on charges of raping his friend's 17-year-old daughter for several months at his house in Burari and impregnating her. The minor alleged the accused and his wife made her undergo an abortion.
Notably, on Monday morning, cops reached his house in the national capital to arrest him. The police said after the demise of the girl's father, the accused had taken her home for care and support.
It is pertinent to mention that the accused is a Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department of the Delhi Government.
According to the police, the matter came to light after extensive psychological counselling was held with her. She had met the accused when she used to go to the local church with her parents — both were government officials. Over time, the families became close. The girl’s father passed away in 2020, after which she went to live with the family of the accused with her mother’s consent.
She stayed under their guardianship from October 2020 to February 2021. During this period, she claimed she was sexually harassed, molested and repeatedly raped by the accused. The minor disclosed that she got pregnant and was forced to abort her pregnancy by the wife of the accused, Delhi Police said.
When the girl returned to her mother’s house in 2021, she started remaining quiet. She did not reveal her ordeal to her mother, but recently confided to doctors during counselling at a hospital, which informed the police.
"The girl started having anxiety bouts and was admitted to a hospital a week back. After extensive psychological counselling, she opened up to the doctors, counsellors and police officers and revealed that she was sexually harassed by the accused," police said.
The medico-legal examination of the minor has been conducted and an investigation into the matter is underway.
