Patna, Aug 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar government after a park in Bihar’s Patna, named after late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was renamed as Coconut Park.

Tej Pratap renames Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park as Coconut park
Bihar's Forest and Environment minister, Tej Pratap Yadav, renamed Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park, located in Patna’s Kankarbagh, to Coconut Park. The name will be changed formally today.

The name of the park located in Kankarbagh was formerly Coconut Park, but after the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2018, it was changed to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park.

However, the Bihar government has once again decided to change its name to Coconut Park.

The BJP has criticised the Bihar government for this name change.

"The renaming of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park to Coconut Park in Kankarbagh, Patna is objectionable and a big offence. He is Bharat Ratna. I urge Nitish Kumar to stop Tejashwi Yadav from renaming it," says Union minister Nityanand Rai.

"On one hand, Nitish Kumar garlands the memorial of Vajpayee ji and on the other hand Tej Pratap Yadav has changed the name of the park. This is a two-tone government. BJP opposes this and the party demands that the name of this park should not be changed," said BJP spokesperson Arvind Kumar Singh said.

Despite the fact that the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park has been changed to Coconut Park, the signboard of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park is still displayed outside the park, and Vajpayee's statue remains inside the park. No alterations have been made to these two things.
