Islamabad, Aug 19: In a shocking development, Pakistan Police have dragged India into anti-Christian violence in Jaranwala area of Faisalabad as it claimed that the riots were pre-planned and a conspiracy to deflect attention from Manipur ethnic violence between Kukis and Meiteis.
This came after Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar claimed that there is "potential foreign involvement in the recent tragic incident in Jaranwala", where a radical Islamist mob unleashed chaos by torching five churches.
In an exclusive interview with SAMAA TV, Anwar indicated that the timing and calculated actions of the main suspects in the incident have raised suspicions of a well-coordinated plan.
"Recently, Christian women were raped in neighbouring country. The attention has been diverted successfully".
"While it is too early to conclusively establish external involvement, the Joint Investigation Team is set to delve into this angle", he added.
Anti-Christian violence by radical Islamists
A violent Muslim mob ransacked and torched 21 churches and several houses of Christians on Wednesday over blasphemy allegations in Jaranwala town of Faisalabad district, 130 km from Punjab’s provincial capital Lahore. A Christian cemetery and the office of the local assistant commissioner were also vandalised.
Pakistani authorities have arrested 135 people in connection with the unprecedented mob attack on 21 churches in Punjab province. The government on Thursday ordered a high-level probe into the riots and promised to “restore” all the damaged churches and homes of the minority Christian community.
