The government said on Tuesday that it had "busted" eight YouTube channels with a combined subscriber base of roughly 23 million for disseminating fake news such as the announcement of early Lok Sabha polls and the prohibition of electronic voting equipment.
The Press Information Bureau fact-checked videos on the following YouTube channels: Yahan Sach Dekho, Capital TV, KPS News, Sarkari Vlog, Earn Tech India, SPN9 News, Educational Dost, and World Best News.
According to authorities, World Best News, a YouTube channel with over 1.7 million followers and over 18 crore views, was discovered to be misrepresenting the Indian Army.
They claimed that the channel Educational Dost, which has over 3.43 million subscribers and 23 crore views, was disseminating false information about government schemes, while SPN9 news, which has over 4.8 million subscribers and 189 crore views, was disseminating false information about the president, prime minister, and several central ministers.
Officials discovered that the channel Sarkari Vlog, which has over 4.5 million members and 9.4 crore views, was distributing false information regarding government programmes.They said that the channel 'KPS News,' which has over one million members and over 13 crore views, is disseminating false information on government programmes, directives, and decisions, such as the availability of cooking gas cylinders for Rs 20 and fuel at Rs 15 per litre.
With over 3.5 million members and over 160 crore views, the station 'Capital TV' was also spreading bogus news regarding the prime minister, the government, and directives relating to the President's rule in West Bengal.
With nearly 3 million followers and over 100 million views, the YouTube channel 'Yahan Sach Dekho' was disseminating bogus news about the Election Commission and the Chief Justice of India.
'Earn India Tech,' which has over 31,000 subscribers and 3.6 million views, was discovered to be spreading fraudulent info about Aadhar cards, PAN cards, and other government documents.
