RattanIndia Enterprises' Throttle Aerospace Systems (TAS) Pvt Ltd has delivered their nimble-i micro-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to the Indian Army.
The nimble-i was presented during the 4th Drone International Expo, which took place in New Delhi on July 26 and 27.
The nimble-i micro-UAV has been in development since 2017, and it has finally become a reality following successful flight testing in late 2018, demonstrating TAS's dedication to innovation and technological excellence. The Indian Army quickly saw the potential of this micro-UAV and ordered two units. The Indian Army received the nimble-i UAVs in May 2023.
The agile-i is a nimble multirotor, electric-powered UAV designed to excel in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions that promises to be a game changer in civil and military applications. Its uses vary from border surveillance and disaster management to monitoring forests and wildfires.
The UAV features four detachable arms ending with landing legs housing electric motors powering the fixed-pitch two-bladed propellers. The central mast is attached with arms, a three-axis gimballed electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) turret, and a battery at the bottom. The electric motors support vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) operations.
The micro-UAV is made of lightweight composites, which allow for a maximum take-off weight of 2 kg and a payload capacity of 0.5 kg. Despite its small size, the nimble-i performs admirably, with a communication range of 5 kilometers and an endurance of 30 minutes. It can withstand wind rates of up to 12 m/s, boosting its operational capabilities in a variety of weather situations.
The nimble-i package comes with a handheld controller and a display screen, making it portable and easy to use. This hand-launched UAV can be retrieved with ease and provides real-time video transmission, allowing for real-time decision-making and information collection.
