The Indian Army has bought around 400 Software Defined Radios (SDRs) from Adani-backed Alpha Defence Technologies Limited (ADTL) for its armored regiments, especially for its Main battle tanks.
These 400 SDRs will let the Indian Army's armored units safely communicate data and speech.
These SDRs vary from prior Analog radios in that they may operate in several bands rather than the single band of older Analog radios, which were vulnerable to interception by the adversary.
"The Indian Army has taken a giant step in ordering 400 armored fighting vehicles SDRs for their tank fleets," stated Col HS Shankar (Retd), CMD of ADTL. We've already signed the deal, and production is underway. We have also offered our manpack SDRs, which have been examined."
ADTL collaborated with DRDO to create these SDRs. The Navy uses SDRs manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), while the ADTL is working on requirements for the Air Force and Army.
"SDR uses embedded electronics that use software-oriented high-end algorithms based waveforms to allow large hopping rate, encryption in anti-jamming voice, data video, IP, and mobile ad-hoc network," Shankar said in the TOI article.
According to the source, ADTL SDRs have already obtained interoperability with SDRs from another business used by the IAF, in addition to collaborating with Israel's Elbit to access export markets.
