'Oppenheimer' deliberately hurts Hindu sentiments? Shows Murphy reciting Bhagavad Gita verses during sex scene; CBFC too allows controversial scenes

Cillian Murphy and his upcoming much-awaited movie Oppenheimer, has drawn a lot of attention in India after its video went viral in which the actor revealed that he read the Bhagavad Gita before shooting the film. However, it seems like you should never trust the West and Hollywood that they will depict Hinduism positively and accurately.

This time too, the makers have deliberately insulted Sanatan Dharma. As per the reports, in the movie, Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer is seen quoting the Bhagavad Gita while having sex.

The scene has caused an uproar and people have taken to social media to express their objection to it. One user wrote, "Why was it necessary to do a scene with Florence Pugh holding Bhagavad Gita and Cillian reciting it while having sex? Oppenheimer is a great movie overall but this part was extremely disappointing."

Another tweet read, "There was a scene in Oppenheimer where a naked girl brings the Bhagavad Gita to Oppenheimer and he reads from it while they're having sex. Very disrespectful scene in my opinion."

While one cannot expect another thing from Hollywood our Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) too has failed to retain the scene in the movie.

It is being learnt, that the Censor Board Of Film Certification gave the film a U/A rating after the studio cut some shots of the sex scene to reduce its length. As per reports, the cuts were made by the studio themselves because they did not think the CBFC would allow the scene. The studio also decided to add a blurred patch on Pugh’s bare back for the movie to be shown in India.

The only change the CBFC asked the filmmakers was to mute the word ‘a*****e’ and to also remove it from the subtitles, said the reports. But the board retained the shot where Jean Tatlock (played by Florence Pugh) makes Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) read from the Bhagavad Gita while having sex.

A section of netizens have also pointed out the same and questioned the CBFC for allowing the release of this film without cutting a scene that can hurt religious sentiments."Shame on censor board for allowing this," a Twitter user wrote. "It can be controversial," another person said.

A handle by the name of Indian-Americans tweeted, "Shame on India’s censor board for allowing this. Christopher Nolan is a typical Hollywood racist. He completely shut out all the Indian fighters in the WWI movie and now he is making crude sexual references to Hinduism. Porno perverts from the West again exploit Hindu texts."
