Patna, Jul 11: Heated scenes were witnessed at a meeting of the ruling alliance in Bihar today with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pulling up an MLC from ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Bihar Assembly, according to sources.

The Chief Minister censured the MLC, Sunil Singh, over a photograph where the latter is seen posing with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting on June 14. Sunil Singh reportedly stood up from his seat and started arguing with Nitish Kumar.

Sources say Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was forced to intervene to pacify both leaders and restore decorum. Sunil Singh had met Amit Shah at a meeting in Delhi on cooperatives that saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance. Pictures of the duo’s meeting were widely shared on social media. Sources say that the Chief Minister also lost his cool with Congress legislator Ajit Sharma at the meeting. He reportedly alleged that Sharma was in touch with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). MLC Sunil Singh is among those close to RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s family and reportedly has unhindered access to his residence, Lalu Awas 10, Circular Road. Every year, Lalu Prasad’s wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi tie rakhi on Sunil Singh. When Tejashwi Yadav got married in 2021, Sunil Singh presented several expensive gifts to the RJD scion and his wife. On June 11, Sunil Singh organized a grand celebration at his residence to celebrate Lalu Prasad’s birthday. Pictures from the event went viral on social media. Against this backdrop, Nitish Kumar’s public outburst at Sunil Singh hints that all may not be well between the Chief Minister and Lalu Prasad.

There are also reports that Nitish Kumar is upset over the raging tussle between Education Minister and RJD leader Chandrashekhar and senior bureaucrat KK Pathak. Matters came to a head and Chandrashekhar was summoned by Lalu Prasad. Soon after, the RJD chief reportedly called up Nitish Kumar and asked him to meet the minister and settle the matter. This was viewed in political circles as Lalu Prasad trying to play ‘Super CM’ with his advice to Nitish Kumar on the war of words. The war of words at the Grand Alliance meeting on Monday and the reported strain in ties come just days after Tejashwi Yadav, father Lalu, and mother Rabri Devi were named in a chargesheet filed by the CBI in the land-for-jobs scam.
