The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Chauhan, a first-year BA (Political Science) student at the School of Open Learning. Police said a group of four-five unidentified men came on bikes and allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest. CCTV footage captured near the college has surfaced online which purportedly showed the accused escaping on two scooters and a bike.

No arrest has been made yet and raids are being conducted to nab the accused, added police. DCP (Southwest) Manoj C said, “We received a PCR call from Charak Palika Hospital at South Campus police station about the stabbing. The injured student was brought to the hospital by other students and locals. Nikhil was an SOL student.” Police said around a week ago, another SOL student had misbehaved with Nikhil’s friend. When Nikhil objected, the accused got angry and decided to take revenge, police added. “Around 12.30 pm on Sunday, the student and three of his associates met Nikhil outside the college gate and stabbed him in the chest,” said the DCP. A police source added, “Nikhil was upset after the student misbehaved with his woman friend and he got into a heated argument with that boy…. The other boy then called his friends and attacked Nikhil.” The victim is survived by his two brothers and parents who live in West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar. He worked as a part-time model. His family said he loved modeling and acting and took part in several competitions in the city. His father Sanjay, who works at a private firm, said, “I received a call around 12-12.30 pm… I was only told someone had hit him… When I reached the college, I found that he was dead. I was shocked. He had left home to meet his friends and was going to return home in a few hours. I went to Safdarjung Hospital and found he had been stabbed brutally… There was blood all over his scooter. My son was innocent.”

“We knew he was in a fight a week ago over a girl. We supported him because he did nothing wrong and was helping his friend. We didn’t know he would be attacked… Police haven’t arrested anyone. I want justice for my son,” added Sanjay. He also alleged the college authorities or teachers didn’t call him. “It all happened right outside the college. Someone should have stopped those boys.” Reacting to the incident, DU Public Relations Officer (PRO) Anoop Lather said: “It is regrettable and sad that a young life has been lost, just outside a college where students come to learn and make a career. God bless his soul and give strength to the family of Nikhil Chauhan in this hour of sadness.”
