In a shocking development, Sharad Pawar on Tuesday announced that he is resigning from the post of the National President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Pawar, who is the founder of NCP, began his career as a member of the Indian National Congress and has held several key positions in the government.
“I have three years tenure remaining in Rajya Sabha. I will not contest elections henceforth,” the NCP chief. This was just a few days after the Pawar hinted at a major shuffle in the party. Earlier, amidst the rumbling in the NCP, Pawar while speaking media, senior Pawar said, "Bhakri must be flipped, otherwise it will burn. Therefore, it is time to flip it. We cannot delay it anymore."
It should be noted that the decision comes amid Ajit Pawar’s political ambitions that have caused a rift between him and Sharad Pawar, even as uncertainty looms over whether the latter would pass his political legacy and baton of the party to him, or his daughter Supriya Sule, a parliamentarian from Baramati.
Interestingly, soon as when Pawar announced his decision, Ajit accepted Pawar's decision to step down and asked the party workers not to be emotional and respect his decision.
As the strong Maratha political leader announced his decision, there are some questions that come to our mind
Who will be the next National President of NCP now?
Will somebody from Parivar take the ropes of the party in their hand? -Ajit Pawar? - Supriya Sule? Or Rohit Pawar?
Or Jayant Patil will become NCP chief?
Is this Sharad Pawar's masterstroke to stop the impending crisis in his party?
Will this decision impact the Maha Vikas Aghadi in the upcoming Loksabha election 2024? It should be noted that earlier, NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s remarks on the unity of opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi constituents in Maharashtra have created ripples in state political circles
