OTA Passing Out Parade: Indian Army gets first five Women Officers to join Artillery Regiment

Chennai, May 1: With completion of the Passing Out Parade of the Officers' Training Academy at Chennai, on Saturday (Apr 29), Indian Army officially received its first batch of five Women Officers, who joined the Regiment of Artillery , the Indian army said in its official statement.

The women being commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery are being provided exactly the same opportunities and challenges as their male counterparts (19 male officers are also commissioned into the Artillery), the Indian army said. According to officials, these young women officers are being posted to all types of artillery units, where they will get adequate training and exposure to handle Rocket, Medium, Field and Surveillance and Target Acquisition (SATA) and equipment in challenging conditions.

Out of the five women officers, three are posted to units deployed along Northern borders and the other two in challenging locations in the Western Theatre, they said. According to sources, the first group of 5 officers namely, Lt Mehak Saini, Lt Sakshi Dubey, Lt Pious Mudgil, Lt Akansha and Lt Aditi Yadav from OTA Chennai joined on Apr 29, while remaining 5 will be commissioned later this year.
