Lucknow, Apr 08: Jailed gangster Atiq Ahmed's wife Shaista Parveen, who is also an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, is still on the run. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police has doubled the reward for her arrest and announced that the prize money for Shaista Parveen had been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000.
The gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's wife has been on the run but recently, in an application to the court, she stated that she had been falsely implicated in the case. Recently, she requested the Allahabad district court to allow her release on bail if she was placed under arrest.
Also, sources close to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) said that Shaista Parveen was invited to the wedding of BSP chief Mayawati's nephew Akash Anand. Umesh Pal was shot and killed in Prayagraj's Dhumanganj area on February 24, this year. Following the incident, Atiq Ahmed, his wife Shaista Parveen, Atiq's brother Ashraf and his sons were named as accused in the case. The police have placed a reward of Rs 5 lakh each on Atiq Ahmed's son Asad, a Guddu Muslim who was the bomber, the shooter Armaan, Ghulam, and Sabir. They are accused in the murder case of Umesh Pal, a prime witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, who, along with his two police guards, was shot dead in the Dhoomanganj police station area in Prayagraj on February 24.
On March 28, a court in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj convicted gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and two other accused in the 2006 kidnapping of Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case.
