The incident happened on 12th April, Wednesday when the Konark express train reached Bhubaneswar from Mumbai on Wednesday night. The sanitation staffer found the explosives while carrying out cleaning work at around 3 am in the morning. He saw smoke and heard a loud sound inside the train and immediately informed the railway officials at the station.

The Railway police personnel were immediately called into action & sniffer dogs were engaged to locate the explosives & found them to be kept inside a bag. The explosives were later kept in a special room of the railway protection force post of the East Coast Railway with all kinds of precautionary measures.

Later Bomb Disposal Squad of RPF reached the spot & upon close investigationThe seized explosives included 8 red parachute signal rockets, 15 rocket parachute flares and a pathfinder Sorter which are often used as long-range distress signalling in WarShips.

The explosives were later taken to Kuakhai riverbed in Bhubaneswar Outskirts by bomb disposal unit & disposed off by blowing them up.

Now a question need to be asked why such flares & explosives exclusively used in Ships are found inside a train in Eastern part of India? Was it a tool for signalling a attack by anti-India elements or burn the Express train down ?
A case in this regard has been registered by Railway Protection Force (RPF) police at Bhubaneswar station. However, the recovery of the explosives meant for distress signalling of warships has put a serious question mark on the security measures at the railway station.
