Chrisann Pereira, who has featured in Bollywood films like 'Sadak 2' and 'Batla House' has landed in huge trouble. The actress has been locked up in Sharjah Central Jail, the United Arab Emirates on drug charges. She has been arrested on drug-trafficking charges two weeks ago. However, her family, while talking claimed that Chrisann is a victim in this case.
On April 7, her brother Kevin Pereira tweeted, "URGENT help required. My sister Chrisann Pereira departed Mumbai airport & was arrested in Sharjah airport on 1st Apr’23 as informed by Mr. Amresh Kumar from The Consulate General of India. We are worried sick not hearing from her past 7 days," tagging Ministry of External Affairs, Mumbai Police and PMO Office and EAM Dr Jaishankar.
The family hasn't been able to make any contact with her ever since she landed at Sharjah airport and they were informed about her arrest by the Indian Consulate only 72 hours after it happened.
Revealing details about the case, her family stated that Chrisann was tricked by a guy named Ravi, who first contacted her mother Premile Pereira to introduce him to her daughter as he was looking for talent to hire for an upcoming international web series.
After a few meetings, the audition was confirmed in Dubai and Ravi took care of all the arrangements. On April 1st, before taking her flight, Ravi handed her a trophy to carry, stating that it was part of the script. On April 10, the actress was charged by the cops after drugs were found in the same. Amid this controversy, the actress was unable to trace Ravi.
The family has already hired a lawyer in Dubai which has cost them Rs 13 lakhs and they are planning to mortgage their house as the fines could be anywhere from Rs 20-40 lakhs. Chrisann Pereira's family reportedly tried filing an FIR with the Mumbai Police in order to arrest the drug trafficker, but they are awaiting official charges from the UAE government.
