Prayagraj, Apr 17: A day after the assassination of Atiq Ahmed in the Prayagraj, the Western media publications in their coverage laid more emphasis on the political career of the gangster than his criminal background.

Almost all the foreign media houses called him a former lawmaker in their reports, choosing to omit that he was a former gangster and named in dozens of criminal cases, including murder cases. One can only assume that the intention behind such an act is to malign India’s image.

In its report published on Sunday (April 16), Reuters not only referred to Atiq Ahmed as a ‘former Indian lawmaker’ but also made passing remarks about his criminal history.

The BBC also cast doubts about the encounters carried out by the Uttar Pradesh police. Associated Press used similar tactics but went a step ahead in demonizing the sacred Hindu chant of ‘Jai Shrim Ram.’

The only exception to this new toolkit used by the Western media outlets to malign India’s image with falsified information as well as telling the half-truth is the Russian media house, Russia Today. Russia today is the only Western media house that reported Gangster-turned-Politician, which is a fact.

The same countries and their intelligentsia which include the same media houses like BBC, Washington Post, CNN, Reuters, etc., then question why India still abstains from voting against Russia in the UN.
