Some remain illiterate despite an IIT degree: Delhi LG on Kejriwal

New Delhi, Apr 10: In a stinging attack on Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday remarked that ‘some people remain illiterate despite being from IIT,’ with the LG's statement coming at a time when Kejriwal and the chief minister-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been targeting prime minister Narendra Modi over his educational qualification.

“Yes, I heard the statement that the honorable chief minister made a few days back on the floor of the House. I would like to say that one should not boast about their degree. A degree is only a certificate that you are literate. Still, your real education is reflected in your knowledge and behavior,” Saxena said to ANI while inspecting the river Yamuna in the national capital.

The lieutenant governor continued: “I've seen how some people have behaved over the past few days. It only proves they are illiterate despite their IIT degree.” Saxena's comment will, in all likelihood, aggravate the acrimony between him and the ruling party. The LG and AAP have been at loggerheads with each other since the former's appointment as the constitutional head of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, in May last year. A representative of the Union government, the LG is superior to the elected CM as well.
