Muslims pelt stones over Holi celebrations in Meerut

Meerut, Mar 06: Holi celebrations turned grim in Meerut after members of Hindu and Muslim communities engaged in clashes and stone pelting on Sunday night. At least six persons were injured in the incident before police reached the spot and took the situation under control.

A heavy police deployment has been made as tension prevailed in the area under the Brahmapuri police station limit in the Harinagar area of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. The scuffle started when two men were collecting donations for Holi celebrations. They entered into a scuffle with some men of another community over alleged derogatory remarks made by them.
 
 
 
Visuals from the scene showed damaged vehicles, broken window panes, and panic-gripped locals running here and there. Among the injured were two individuals from the Hindu community who blamed several Muslim men from the area for attacking them and threatening to ruin their Holi celebrations. Soon after receiving the information, police reached the spot and took the situation under control. Cops have taken in a written complaint and started investigations.
 
 
Police deployment in the area has also been stepped up. Cops are scanning CCTV footage to identify the culprits and added no arrest has been made so far in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
