After the episode where the Kerala government banned the use of saffron colour in the decoration of the Vellayani Bhadrakali temple, a similar development has come to Kerala's other district.
In the latest incident, a non-Hindu led festival committee of the Thirumandhamkunnu temple at Angadipuram in Malappuram painted the temple in the Pakistani flag’s colour.- green and white – ahead of the Pooram festival.
As per the reports, the colour made the temple look like a mosque. The development come to the fore front of the media after some media houses reported the issue.
It should be noted that the temple is located in Muslim majority Malappuram District and out of the 14 members of the festival committee, five are Muslims. The first name on the panel is that of Muslim League leader and Member of Parliament Abdul Samad Samadani. The chairman of the committee is Manjalamkuzhi Ali, MLA. One of the vice-chairmen of the panel is Jose Varghese, a Christian.
Meanwhile, after the development, the Hindu Aikya Vedi (HAV) and other temple organisations submitted a memorandum before the temple committee asking to change the colour. The temple committee yielded and later agreed to change the paint colour.
