Maharashtra man booked for WhatsApp status on Aurangzeb

Mumbai, March 20: In a shocking development, a Muslim man allegedly hailed Mughal emperor Aurangzeb on his WhatsApp status in Maharashtra.The incident took place in Kolhapur district on March 16 (Thursday).

Following the development, the Kolhapur police has registered a complaint against him. 
 
Based on a complaint, a case under section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Vadgaon police station, an official said.
 
 
The man had allegedly hailed emperor Aurangzeb on his WhatsApp status and it came to light on March 16, he said.The matter is being probed, the official said, urging people not to post any derogatory remarks about any religion on social media.
 
 
This development come weeks after Union government on Friday approved the renaming of two Maharashtra cities, Aurangabad and Osmanabad. It should be noted that a poster of the Moghul tyrant Aurangzeb surfaced during the protest organized by Imtiyaz Zaleel MP of Sambhajinagar against the renaming of his constituency.
