Chennai, March 18 : The election for the post of AIADMK's general secretary will be held on March 26. Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS), who is currently the interim general secretary, will most likely be elected unopposed.
The filing of nominations will start from March 18 and the last date for withdrawing them will be on March 21. The counting of votes and the subsequent announcement of the election results will be held on March 27. The party's primary members will be electing the general secretary.
Earlier in February, the Supreme Court had upheld the Madras High Court's verdict which allowed EPS to continue as the interim General Secretary for the AIADMK. The apex court, however, said it did not consider the submissions on the resolution passed at the July 11, 2022 general meeting of the AIADMK where the party's executive council appointed EPS as interim General Secretary and expelled OPS for "anti-party activities".
The election announcement came even as the civil suit filed by OPS challenging the resolutions adopted during the July 11 meeting is yet to be adjudicated upon by the Madras High Court.
