J&K: Conman poses as Additional Director (PMO), gets Z-plus security and bulletproof SUV; arrested

Srinagar, Mar 17: In a shocking development, a conman posed as a top official in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and held meetings with top officials in the Union territory has been arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The conman, identified as Kiran Bhai Patel, used to identify himself as the Additional Director in the PMO. Reports suggest that he had been visiting the Kashmir Valley since October last year. He even made his way through the Kaman Post in Uri, closer to the Line of Control (LoC), to Lal Chowk in Srinagar before he was arrested.

According to the FIR lodged in Nishat Police Station in Srinagar, Kiran Patel "indulged in activities within the jurisdiction of this police station and other parts of the Kashmir Valley". He enjoyed government hospitality, was assigned a personal security officer (PSO), and room in a luxury hotel.

The fraudster, however, was arrested on March 3 after the Jammu and Kashmir police received information about him. A case has been registered against the accused at Nishat police station under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 IPC of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It’s interesting to note that the ‘conman,’ Kiran Patel, claims to hold a Ph.D. from Commonwealth University in Virginia, an MBA from IIM Trichy, an M Tech in Computer Science, and a BE in computer engineering as well.
