The thegruesome act come to light after the CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media. All the key members including Elango – the DMK councillor of ward number 17 in Ponneri – involved in this dispute are related to each other. The two women involved in the property dispute are also relatives.

The dispute started between two women Nandhini and Gayathri. Gayathri used to stay on rent in her aunt Nandhini's house. The house is Nandhini's ancestral property.

A few days back, Nandhini had sent Gayathri out of the house due to a dispute and kept the keys with herself. During the argument that followed, a local DMK councillor Elango and his aides came and beat up Gayathri and her sister Keerthi.

The councillor is believed to be a relative of Nandhini. After this Gayathri filed a police complaint along with the CCTV footage with the assistance of her relative Balamurugan and a friend Robert. Enraged by the police complaint, Elango and his aides identified as Vinod, Dilip Kumar and Raj Kiran came and argued with Robert and Balamurugan.

Later they assaulted both of them with stones. While Robert managed to escape, Balamurugan was beaten severely and he later succumbed to his injuries. The police have so far arrested two aides of the councillor involved in the incident.

Condemning the incident Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai said that the people of the state are now asking if DMK councillors have made Kattapanchayat (kangaroo courts) as their full time occupation.

He added that had the police immediately taken action against the councillor, the death could have been prevented.

It should be remided that last month, an Army soldier Prabhu died due to a brutal attack by DMK councillor Chinnaswamy and his aides.
