NIA 'arrest' software engineer from UP for alleged Al-Qaeda links

Arif was allegedly in touch with terrorists over the Internet for more than two years and wanted to fly to Iran and Afghanistan to join the Islamic State (IS).

New Delhi, February 14: In a major crack down against the terrorism, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with Karnataka’s Internal Security Division arrested a suspected terrorist with links to Al-Qaeda from Bengaluru on Saturday (11 February 2023).

Arif, a software engineer by profession, is a resident of Uttar Pradesh. He was allegedly in touch with Al-Qaeda terrorists for the last two years.
 
He was arrested in a joint operation with Karnataka ISD, according to an NIA source.Arif had come under the radar of security agencies when he dialled several terrorists in India. He was also trying to contact other terrorists based out of India.
 
 
Arif was allegedly in touch with terrorists over the Internet for more than two years and wanted to fly to Iran and Afghanistan to join the Islamic State (IS).
 

Reports also note that he has already travelled to Syria. The agency has seized his electronic gazettes and is trying to find out with whom he was in touch and what he was planning. He was being questioned by officials of the NIA and ISD, sources added.
