Who will be the CM of Rajasthan has been one of the most asked questions after BJP's huge victory in the state in Assembly Elections. Some brainstorming sessions are being held in the national capital among the BJP top brass to choose the next CM.
While the final decision will be taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah as always, here are some of the faces you need to know about-
1. Vasundhara Raje
Raje, a two-time chief minister of Rajasthan and powerful woman leader from the state, is among the contenders for the top post though she is not the preferred candidate. She is credited to have played crucial role in the BJP's massive win against Congress. In the final two weeks of campaigning, she was assigned the task of holding rallies in 49 constituencies, of which the BJP has won 36.
2. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat
Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is another key aspirant. The 56-year-old Jaisalmer-born Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is currently a member of the Lok Sabha from the Jodhpur constituency. He had taken the lead in targeting the outgoing Ashok Gehlot government on almost every issue. In the 2019 General Elections, Shekhawat defeated Ashok Gehlot's son Vaibhav Gehlot, cementing his position within the party.
3. Diya Kumari
Diya Kumari, the granddaughter of Gayatri Devi, is said to be the key to countering the Vasundhara factor because of being a woman, and her royal past. She was initially considered an outsider in Sawai Madhopur, but because of developmental work in the constituency, she became popular. Diya comes from the Rajput community. Raje was initially credited with bringing her into state politics but later, the two of them were involved in a bitter property dispute when Vasundhara was the chief minister.
4. Ashwini Vaishnaw
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is leading the race for the Chief Minister's post in Rajasthan. Vaishnaw, who has a diverse experience in bureaucracy and the corporate world, has been a Rajya Sabha member from Odisha since June 2019.
5. Mahant Balak Nath
Known as ‘Rajasthan ka Yogi’ Balaknath is the eighth ‘mahant’ (chief priest in a monastery) of Baba Mast Nath Math. He has resigned from his Lok Sabha membership, submitting his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today. He contested the recent state assembly elections from Alwar's Tijara constituency, losing to Congress candidate Imran Khan.
