Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the recent achievement of Pune, Maharashtra, where a record-breaking reading activity took place on December 14th, 2023. This remarkable feat, organized by the National Book Trust as part of the Pune Book Festival, saw 3,066 parents reading aloud to their children, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous reading activity

The previous record, held by China, stood at 2,884 simultaneous readers. Pune's achievement not only surpassed this mark but also created a truly magical atmosphere, etching the names of the participants in history.
 
The event, held at SP College from 8-10am, aimed to promote a culture of reading through storytelling. Parents immersed themselves in reading aloud from the book "निसर्गाचा नाश करू नाका" by Kshipra Shahane, creating a magical atmosphere for the children and etching their names in history.
 
The Pune Municipal Corporation, along with the Maharashtra government, Savitribai Phule Pune University, National Book Trust, and Sir Parashurambhau College collaborated to organize this record-breaking feat.
The success of the event was further amplified by the presence of several dignitaries, including Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Vikas Dhakne, actress Prajakta Mali, SPPU Vice Chancellor Dr Suresh Gosavi, NBT India Director Yuvraj Malik, and renowned entrepreneur Suryakant Kakade.
 
 
 
This achievement not only sets a new world record but also serves as a catalyst for the upcoming Pune Book Festival, scheduled to be held from December 16th to 24th at Fergusson College. The festival promises an extensive collection of books in various languages and a diverse range of events, including literary sessions, children's activities, talent showcases, and cultural performances.
 
With the expectation of over five lakh visitors, the Pune Book Festival aims to cater to diverse reading interests and encourage a love for books among all age groups.
