UP: 17-yr-old Hindu girl commits suicide after her boyfriend Zahid Akhtar circulated private videos

Lakhimpur Kheri, Nov 5: Communal tensions are being witnessed in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri after a minor Hindu girl committed suicide as her Muslim boyfriend Zahid Akhtar, circulated their videos online.

 

The girl, who had completed class 12 this year, was found hanging at home on Thursday.

 

Based on the family's complaint, the police filed a case against Johid and his parents under IPC sections 323, 306, 376 and 506, along with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008, and Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.

 

Hindu organisations intervened and staged a protest. They refused to cremate the body and burnt down the man's property.

 

 

Heavy police force was soon deployed after the mob started pelting stones. Initially, they demanded that the man's house be "demolished by a bulldozer", and later agreed to conduct her last rites only after "assurances of arrest and a fair probe" by district magistrate Mahendra Bahadur Singh and SSP Ganesh Prasad Saha.

 

SSP (Kheri) Saha said, “The incident took place in Sampoornanagar. The victim and the main accused belonged to the same neighbourhood. He was arrested and the role of three others is being investigated. We will file a chargesheet against the main accused and ensure the case is heard in court on a fast-track basis. Scientific and circumstantial evidence are being collected and the circle officer will oversee the investigation.”

 

The victim is survived by her mother, the elder sister and a younger brother, who is two years old.
