The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is considering obtaining an anti-drone technology from Israel to equip the Border Security Force (BSF) to battle Pakistan-based drones. This decision follows Pakistan's growing use of high-quality Chinese-made drones to transport narcotics, weapons, and ammunition into India.

"The government is in talks with two different Israeli companies about such anti-drone technology." "The government is aware that state actors across the border have been using high-quality drones to smuggle drugs, arms, and ammunition into India," a senior source told this correspondent on condition of anonymity on Thursday.

According to the person, the government is also in the process of procuring drones from domestic manufacturers. It is worth noting that the Indian government already installed an Israel-developed smart fence system with a 'rapid reaction team' mechanism along its sensitive border with Pakistan. A similar mechanism is in place along a small part of the India-Bangladesh border.

Pakistani Drone Threat Is Growing

Drones are increasingly being used by Pakistan to carry illicit commodities into India, creating a serious security concern. Smugglers may easily avoid border security systems by using drones to transport contraband directly to their intended receivers.

In recent years, the quality of Chinese-made drones has substantially increased, making them more useful for smuggling activities. These drones can carry bigger payloads, fly at higher altitudes, and cover greater distances than previous generations.

India's Drone Defense Strategy

To counter the rising drone danger, the Indian government has taken many initiatives, including:

1. Anti-drone technologies are being deployed around critical borders.
2. Domestic anti-drone technology development Training BSF soldiers to identify and disable drones
3. The purchase of an anti-drone technology built in Israel is another stage in India's overall effort to confront the Pakistani drone menace. This technology is supposed to enable the BSF to identify, track, and neutralize drones more effectively.
