A few days ago, the makers of Sam Bahadur unveiled the film’s first song, "Badhte Chalo" ahead of the movie's release on December 1. Featuring Vicky Kaushal donned the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the song is a stirring tribute to the indomitable spirit of the Indian Army.
Sung by the dynamic trio of Shankar Mahadevan, Vishal Dadlani, and Divya Kumar, with lyrics penned by Gulzar, and music composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, “Badhte Chalo” opens with Sam Manekshaw rallying his troops for battle, saying, “Wars ladna mera kaam hai aur unko jeetna bhi (It is my work to fight wars and win them).”
The difference between this song from a lot of other military tracks in Indian cinema is that it involves several historical war cries from various regiments of the Indian Army in its lyrics. To make it as authentic as possible, the makers have made the actual soldiers do the war cry.
1. Madras Regiment
Veer madrassi, adi kollu, adi kollu, adi kollu!
(O brave Madrassi, hit and kill, hit and kill, hit and kill)
2. Maratha Regiment
Bola Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ki Jai
(Hail Victory To King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj)
3. Garhwal Rifles
Badri Vishal Lal ki Jai
(Hail Victory to Badri Vishal Lal)
4. Bihar Regiment
Birsa Munda ki Jai
(Hail Victory to Birsa Munda)
5. Rajputana Rifles
Raja Ram Chandra Ki Jai
(Victory to Raja Ram Chandra)
6. Rajput Regiment
Bol Bajrang Bali Ki Jai
(Victory to Bhagwan Hanuman)
7. Mahar Regiment
Bolo Hindustan Ki Jay
(Say Victory to India)
8. Sikh Regiment
Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akaal
(Shout Aloud in Ecstasy, True is the Great Eternal God!)
9. Kumaon Regiment
Kalika Mata Ki Jai
(Victory to Devi Kalika)
10. Dogra Regiment

(Victory to Devi Jwala)
11. Jammu and Kashmir Rifles

Lastly, they give the war cry Bharat Mata Ki Jai!
