In a decisive and powerful move aimed at strengthening their anti-terrorism capabilities, the Tamil Nadu police have established a highly specialized Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
With a sizable budget of Rs 60 crore, this elite team of 383 extensively trained individuals will work tirelessly to combat any threats to the state. Operating under the close watch of an Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), the ATS will be strategically positioned throughout the region.
Boasting a formidable force of experienced officers at the level of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the squad will be divided into teams equipped to effectively tackle potential dangers.
These teams will consist of five additional superintendents, 13 deputy superintendents, 31 inspectors, and 61 sub-inspectors, with an additional 36 ministerial staff providing crucial support to their operations.
The establishment of the ATS is a crucial milestone in bolstering Tamil Nadu's anti-terrorism strategies. Equipped with state-of-the-art intelligence collection, analysis, and digital forensic tools worth Rs 18 crore, this specialized unit is fully equipped to combat terrorist threats and ensure the safety of its citizens.
In a powerful demonstration of his dedication to protecting Tamil Nadu from the danger of terrorism, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced the formation of the ATS during a session at the state Assembly in April. Now, with the ATS in full operation, Tamil Nadu stands ready to proactively address potential threats and maintain peace and security.
