The United States had foiled a plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, quoting unnamed officials. The newspaper also reported that the US government had "issued a warning" to India over concerns that New Delhi was "involved in the plot" to eliminate Pannun.

The Financial Times report comes weeks after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went public with allegations that agents linked to the Indian government were involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Nijjar, also a Khalistan advocate like Pannun, was killed in a shooting in Canada's Surrey in June this year.

Trudeau's allegations were strongly denied by the Indian government and sparked a diplomatic row that has led to an ongoing dip in ties between the two countries.

The Financial Times quoted Pannun as declining to say whether the US authorities had warned him about the alleged plot, saying he would “let the US government respond to the issue of threats to my life on American soil from Indian operatives”.

Recently, Pannun sparked controversy after issuing a video message wherein he issued a threat to people planning to travel via Air India on November 19, saying that their "lives would be in danger".

In the video that surfaced on November 4 the Khalistani terrorist had said, “We are asking the Sikh people not to fly via Air India on November 19. There will be a global blockade. On November 19, don't travel by Air India or your life will be in danger.”

Speaking about the video message, Pannun told the Financial Times that he was not making a violent threat against the airline.

The report over the alleged plot to kill Pannun on American soil comes two days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) registered a case against Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun over Air India threat video.
