IPGL to sign agreement with Iranian Port Authority soon to start full-fledged operation at Chabahar port

State-owned India Ports Global Ltd (IPGL), which was founded to construct and operate the Chabahar port in Iran, would soon sign an agreement with the Iranian Port Authority to begin full-fledged operations, according to TK Ramachandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
The Chabahar port, located on Iran's energy-rich southern coast, is being constructed by India, Iran, and Afghanistan to improve connectivity and commercial links. "(To begin full-fledged operation of) the Chabahar Port...an agreement between IPGL and the Iranian Port Authority was to be signed." That is currently being worked on. "It will happen soon," Ramachandran said to reporters in Chennai.
Chabahar is a port on the Indian Ocean. It is close to the Indian Ocean and the road to Afghanistan.
In response to a query on the operation of the India-financed Sittwe Port in Myanmar amid violence between Myanmar's military and anti-junta militants, Ramachandran stated, "In terms of infrastructure, work will continue." The freight transit will take place when the geopolitical environment is favorable."
In recent weeks, there has been an increase in fighting between anti-junta groups and Myanmar government forces along the Indian border, raising fears within India's military establishment about the potential spillover impact.
The port in the neighboring country's Rakhine state was created with Indian aid as part of the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project (KMTTP).
