New Delhi, Nov 14: In a new development, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested four associates including two former and one current student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), for their links with the ISIS.
The statement mentioned the arrest of 29-year-old Rakib Imam Ansari, a BTech and MTech graduate from AMU in Aligarh on Friday. On Saturday, the ATS detained Naved Siddiqui (23), a BSc student at Aligarh Muslim University; Mohd Noman (27), a BA (Honours) graduate from the university; and 23-year-old Mohd Nazim, a graduate from Sambhal.
Mohit Agarwal, ADG, ATS, stated, "UP ATS has so far arrested seven persons of the module. Further investigation into the case is ongoing."
According to the release of ATS-banned ISIS literature, mobile phones, and pen drives were seized from the accused. "The accused were allegedly linked to the banned terror outfit ISIS and working to overthrow the elected government through "violent terror jihad" and establish 'Sharia'. The accused were distributing ISIS-related literature for the purpose among like-minded people and associating them with the terror group," the release stated.
They were mentally and physically preparing people for "terror jihad" through online platforms and planned to carry out a major action in the state and the country, it added. All the accused came in contact with each other during meetings of the Students of Aligarh Muslim University - a students' union - and were trying to connect new people with ISIS under its garb.

AMU authorities mentioned that the UP Police and ATS have not yet verified the credentials of the arrested individuals. The ATS statement indicated that the recent arrests were made based on information gathered from the three previously arrested suspects.
AMU, a hub for terrorists..?
Last week, two individuals were arrested who were found to be associated with the SAMU. The arrestee Arsalan holds a BTech degree in petroleum chemical engineering from a private university, while Tariq was pursuing a BCom degree through distance learning.
Prior to this, Earlier on November 8, ATS of Uttar Pradesh arrested a suspected terrorist identified as Wajihuddin under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) from Chhattisgarh's Durg district, the police said. He was an active member of ISIS and has been pursuing Ph.D. from AMU
