The country's first-ever center for cyber operations and security, known as CenCOPS, is on the verge of becoming operational, a key step in strengthening India's cybersecurity defenses. CenCOPS, which is housed in the Heritage Centre of the Indian Air Force facility in Chandigarh's Sector 18, is intended to transform the country's response to cyber threats.
This cutting-edge cyber security hub is outfitted with features such as facial recognition, data analytics, predictive policing, evidence collecting, and enhanced forensic investigative capabilities.
CenCOPS's formation demonstrates the Indian government's ongoing commitment to reinforcing the country's cybersecurity infrastructure. This ambitious initiative, with a fixed budget of Rs 88 crore, was launched in May of this year by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
During the first three years of operation, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will administer the cyber center. Aside from its operational duties, the DRDO will be critical in providing thorough training to law enforcement professionals. This program will cover the complexities of countering cyber fraud as well as the use of cutting-edge analytical techniques to examine such situations and evaluate relevant data.
CenCOPS is on track to become a multifunctional cyber analysis hub, focusing on four main areas:
1. Cyber Crime Identification: The center will examine cybercrime data to identify patterns and new trends in online fraud. The information gathered will be shared with law enforcement agencies in order for them to take preventative action.
2. CenCOPS will do hardware analysis on devices used by cybercriminals such as mobile phones, laptops, cameras, and drones. Online fraud instances will be resolved more quickly if hardware is analyzed on time.
3. Data Security: To safeguard their data, the center will work with many departments, institutes, and government organizations. A unified approach to data security can help prevent hackers and protect sensitive information.
4. Social Media Monitoring : CenCOPS will actively monitor social media platforms to combat cyberbullying and evaluate data acquired from multiple sources to aid in predictive police initiatives.
