India had a day to remember at the ongoing Asian Games as the Indian athletes won 15 medals on a memorable Super Sunday (October 1). By winning 15 medals, India broke its 13-year-old record for most medals won in a single day. Back in 2010, India had won 11 medals on the 14th day of the games.
Apart from this, India won three gold, seven silver and five bronze medals on Sunday. Avinash Sable, Tajinder Pal Singh Toor, and the men's shooting trap team won the gold medal.
Golfer Aditi Ashok, Jyothi Yarraji, Ajay Saroj, Murali Sreeshankar, Harmilan Bains, women's shooting trap team and men's badminton team clinched the silver medal. The men's badminton team had to settle for silver despite the early advantage but fell short against China.
Jinson Johnson, Seema Punia, Kynan Chenai, Nandini and Nikhat Zareen won the bronze medal. The addition of 15 medals has taken India's tally to 53. India has won 13 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze medals taking them to the fourth spot in the medal tally with China, Korea and Japan making it to the first, second and third spot respectively.
The upcoming week of the 2022 Asiad will be a crucial one and top stars like Neeraj Chopra and PV Sindhu will be in action. Neeraj will enter his event as one of the favourites.
After the success of the women's cricket team, all eyes will be on the men's cricket team. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led second-string Team India will open its campaign in the quarter-final game on October 3.
