After outrage, DMK suspends its cadres for molesting woman constable; gets arrested

After the outrage from the Bharatiya Janata Paty, Chennai Police arrested the two Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) cadres for allegedly molesting an on-duty lady constable during a party event on Sunday (January 01). This arrest comes hours after the  M K Stalin-led party suspended them from the party on Tuesday night.

The woman constable was on crowd control duty at a DMK rally in Chennai on Sunday when she was allegedly molested by Ekambaram and Praveen, the two DMK workers who have now been suspended from the party and arrested.
 
The incident allegedly took place at a DMK meeting near the Dasarathapuram bus stand in Chennai’s Saligramam.
During the event, DMK cadres started misbehaving with female police constable. Upon noticing that the lady constable was being harassed, Constable Kesavan intervened while R5 Inspector Thomson Xavier attempted to catch the accused as they tried to flee.
 
 
 
However, DMK cadres created a ruckus and officials did not detain the suspects either.
 
The video of the incident that took place on Sunday (December 31) has been went viral on social media.
As soon as the incident went viral, the opposition slammed the ruling DMK over how the case was handled and stated that CM Stalin only remained a silent spectator. BJP leader, K.Annamalai also took social media and slammed the state government saying, "Disgraceful state of affairs in Tamil Nadu. Governance is in deep slumber. "
 
Following the incident, the female police constable filed a police complaint against the DMK leaders under several section of the Indian Panel Code (IPC). |However, she later withdrew after both accused reportedly apologised.
