Srinagar, Jan 30: Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi unfurled the Indian national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. It was Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra's final leg in Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, Lal Chowk in Srinagar was a very sensitive area in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The whole area was controlled by radical Islamists but now is accessible for the common man but things changed after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi-led government.

However, if one sees a video, Rahul Gandhi’s own cutout was larger and taller than Tiranga which many felt was disrespectful and insulting behaviour by Congress senior leader like Rahul Gandhi.

Netizens were quick to point out the seemingly disrespectful behavior by Rahul Gandhi.

"🚨 Rahul Gandhi got his own cutout installed higher than the Indian Flag🇮🇳 at Lal Chowk. Later, the Congress prince hoisted the Tiranga. This is an insult to the Tiranga🇮🇳. For Congress, Nothing is bigger than the Gandhi-Nehru family, not even the country," an user said.

A netizen said, "Rahul Gandhi always tries to copy PM Modi which Modi has done many years ago. And at Lal Chowk, Rahul Baba appeared with a big cutout. Even Tiranga is smaller than his cutout. Copy to thik se kar liya karo".

A user called it disrespectful and added, "Earlier, Congress had said Rahul Gandhi will not unfurl the Indian National Flag at the Lal Chowk in Srinagar as it was 'RSS agenda'."

Speaking on the same, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) credited the move to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Rahul Gandhi could do so because PM Modi abrogated Article 370.

"How did Rahul Gandhi peacefully unfurl the tricolour at Srinagar's Lal Chowk today? It happened because Modi Ji abrogated Article 370 in J&K. After Art 370, J&K received a high number of tourists. During Congress govt, there was terrorism and fear in Kashmir," senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

For the first time ever post-independence, India's National Flag will be unfurled atop the Clock Tower at Srinagar's iconic Lal Chowk in Jammu and Kashmir on January 26. Last year, on the occasion of Independence Day, the Clock Tower was illuminated with colors of Indian tricolour. Notably, such developments are taking place after the abrogation of Article 370.

Notably, at the peak of militancy, PM Modi, along with the then BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi, unfurled the national flag at the same venue when terrorism was at its peak in 1990.
