New Delhi, Jan 20: Rajya Sabha MP, Professor Rakesh Sinha, met President Draupadi Murmu today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Rakesh Sinha is a Nominated member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
President Murmu is the first and only Indian President of the tribal community. MP Sinha discussed the issues related to the tribal community in India. Sinha talked about his work in the northeastern state of Meghalaya. Sinha adopted Kongthong village (located in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya) in August 2020. He further announced the adoption of another three villages (Mawmang, Mawsohmad, and Sder) adjoining Kongthong in September 2021 with the objective of sustainable development, upscaling livelihoods, and improving the income of people. He has gifted modern toilets and sanitary pads vending machines to Kongthong village.
As an MP who adopted 4 tribal villages, his discussion with the President was significant. Sinha presented a copy of the book Our Saheb to the President. The book is about Balasaheb Salunke, a parliamentarian and social activist from Maharashtra. MP Sinha has written forwards of this book. Sinha discussed why he took interest in writing forwards for the book and publishing it. President Murmu appreciated the work done by Rakesh Sinha. The meeting lasted for over 40 minutes.
