We were just going to market for shopping. I asked my wife "distance is not much, must be about one Km one way so we are not required to take the car for that purpose. Parking will also be an issue."
She agreed " Yes, total weight of the stuff will be about four kg only, we can carry easily, back home."
As we went for shopping -total weight landed up about ten Kg, our assumption went wrong.
I said - "we can take the three-wheeler"
She said" You can pick up six kg and I will pick up four Kg and it should be good enough."
I did not have the choice.
Though I felt happy that my wife showed faith in my capability to lift 6 Kg weight for one Km. It proved to be short lived faith as we realised. Excitement is not endurance as we concluded.
We just crossed 300 meters and now we both were feeling the requirement of three-wheeler, the initial weight of six kg and four kg, after the distance of 300 meters, has just doubled up. It was gaining weight after every meter and first to give up was my wife. Though she was yet to give up officially but I knew it.
“Should we take a three-wheeler?”
“We should be able to manage it “she said.
Keeping the pride intact is good consolation.
Another 100 meters, my wife was totally exhausted. But she was insistent to carry it herself.
“What is the role of husband other than carrying the weight of shopping? Good husband has to keep the pride of his wife intact “I thought.
“OK, not to worry, you can give it to me. I will carry six Kg in one hand and another 4 Kg in another hand, switching between the hands will give the balance to the body and I will be able to carry it.” I spoke.
“No, I can carry it …”
“I know you can but it is inconvenient to you and me both, why to waste energy, you can just hold my mobile.”
She reluctantly accepted the offer.
This is what happens in our life. As we pick up the stress for longer duration and distance, even smaller weights or problems become bigger and heavier. When it happens, we lose balance physically and mentally? We start criticising the situations or the people closer to us.
So, never ever neglect the small problems and give these the opportunity to become bigger in life. Never ever allow these stressful situations to stop you from protecting the pride of those people who are close to you.
As we moved in our home and I unloaded myself.
My wife told me “I think it was bit extra for you today, you must be tired.”
“No, it is OK “
“After all you have been a military man …”
I gave her a corner look.
“Next time we will take the three-wheeler for this shopping.”
We both laughed.
I understood, she was trying to protect my pride now.
Hope lessons with you are intact .
