The government of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced to change the name of Rajpath and Central Vista lawns into Kartavya Path. PM Modi will inaugurate the 'Kartavya Path' on 8th September 2022.

Five facts you should know about Kartavya Path-
 
1.Kartavya Path includes the entire avenue and area from the Netaji Statue to the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The route runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill through Vijay Chowk and India Gate to National Stadium in Delhi.
 
 
2.The redeveloped version of Rajpath, now known as Kartavya Path, has 16 permanent walkway bridges among other features.

The decision comes after PM Modi’s address on Independence Day where he stressed to shed the colonial mindset.
 
 
4.Rajpath was a Hindi translation of Kingsway, the ceremonial boulevard’s name during British rule, named after King George V. He had visited India in 1911 when the decision to move the British Raj’s capital from Calcutta to Delhi was formally proclaimed.
 
 
5.It symbolises a shift from erstwhile Rajpath being an icon of power to Kartavya Path being an example of public ownership and empowerment.
